Most girls are pretty close with their moms

You grow up and your mom braids your hair

and paints your toenails

and you probably talk about boys

Well my mom and I weren't close until I was older

So our talks aren't really like that.

It's one thing when she tries to talk about my step dad naked (gross)

Or give me her old lingerie amongst the clothes she's getting rid of

But her latest story took the cake

It was a normal conversation in the beginning

And then everything changed

Mom: Guess what I did today?

Me: I don't know what?

Mom: Well, you know how I went to that passion party a few weekends ago?

(Passion party = nice way to say sex toy party. It was my step sister's party. I think that makes this whole situation worse)

Me: Yeah...

Mom: Well I came home from our weekend together and the package from the party was here. 

Me: Okay... good?

Mom: Well it was open and there was nothing inside

Me: Did Gary open it?!?!?!

(Gary is my step dad)

Mom: no I asked him and he said he didn't open it.

Me: So who did?

Mom: I don't know. I went to the post office.

Me: So you had to tell them what was stolen?

Mom: Yeah. So then I was at Lucille's house and I saw the post master drive by and so I had to chase after her.

Me: Why?

Mom: They told me that she could track the package.

Me: Did they?

Mom: No. But now everyone in Cove City knows Kathryn Amerson has a big pink dildo.

Today is my 23rd birthday!

I have a test and a quiz and a cold 

and a giant pimple and my period (sorry if that's TMI)

Happy Birthday to me?

Every year, starting with my 17th birthday, Robert and I have stayed up

Or at least woken back up at 12am right as it turns my birthday

And I've gotten birthday hugs and kisses

(technically the first time he kissed me... even if it was just on the forehead)

And last night I passed out at 10 

The one birthday we live together and we don't do our ritual

But I woke up this morning

And my cold is almost gone

I can breathe through my nose 

It might not be the best birthday EVER

but I think it's going to be a good day

17 was one of the best years ever

And I have a feeling 23 will be the same way

How can it not? 

I'm getting married!

I'll be halfway through graduate school!

So many great things happening...

So here's to a great year!

Describe your first date with your now current partner. Did you feel any "butterflies" on your first couple of encounters? Did you have any indication it would later be the "real deal?"

Dear Former Single Self,

This one's a tough one because the two of you never really had an official first date. You thought you were friends. Just friends. But maybe it should have hit you Valentine's Day 2007 that this boy might be more than just your friend. Sometimes you consider this your first date. If you remember right it's actually where you found out you do like steak and you got a pretty good story out of it. That boy you watch basketball with came over and cooked you and your friend steak and it was amazing. Your dad kind of cooks steak until its leather so you never knew that it was bearable to eat steak without so much A1. It was delicious. Then that same boy left your dad's gas on... and we didn't figure it out until the entire tank had emptied. This will be funny years later but it wasn't so funny to that poor boy then.

The other time you could consider your first date was when you went to his sister's wedding 2 days before you officially started dating. You met his extended family and about 200 of their closest friends. It was like ripping a bandaid off. And you loved it.

It's pretty safe to say that you knew there was something special because you enjoyed meeting so many people. You invited him to your house. And the butterflies? He drug out that first kiss for DAYSSSSSS. It was the sweetest thing in the world. I think you knew it was the real deal right away because you never wanted someone around so much. You always pulled away from relationships and you HATED the thought of saying I love you. You said I love you to that boy you watched basketball with within 3 months. Crazy. 

You were home. And your instincts were right. You not only gained the one but you gained another family. You gained another home. So please listen to those instincts. And when that boy gets a little scared of how serious you are so fast just give him his space and be nice to him anyway because he's your one.

Okay, okay I'm not married.

But in less than 5 months I will be

How long have you been married?

  Negative 5 months? 

"Negative six... five months and a couple days."

Well that's comforting. At least he knows when our wedding date is.

Where was your first date? 

His sister's wedding. 

"That's kind of a loaded question... I guess when I left the gas on at your dad's house?" "So Valentines Day?" "Yeah".

This was a hard one because for a while we were "just friends" and there wasn't really a specific date that was our first. We went to dinner before. And my friend was with me on Valentines Day so I'm not sure that really counts either. That reminds me that I might tell this story some day...

Where was your first kiss?

  His yard. In my car. 

"On the mouth"

This is him showing his affection for taking questionnaires by being a smart ass.

Who first said, "I love you"?

  He did. 

"I did"

I don't think he really wanted me to type this. Promise it doesn't make you less manly Robert, it's one of my favorite things about you and our relationship :)

What were your wedding colors? 

Will be- yellow and blues 

"Yellow and... aqua teal, whatever it's all the same"

Sadly his answer was actually more specific.

What is her most commonly used phrase? 

I don't even know this one. Probably "right?" or "kittens". 

"Put the toilet seat down... I don't know um... who want's to give a back rub?"

I probably said the back rub one 3 times after I asked this... on accident. So maybe he knows me a little better in this case... oops.

Who is her celebrity crush? 

So many to chose from... Channing Tatum, the Hemsworth brothers, James Franco, John Mayer.

"Probably James Franco"

I actually had to google people to put up here. How sad.

If she was ordering drinks for both of you what would you each get?

  Depends on where we were. My favorite drink is only at one restaurant (drink= queen bee), anywhere else I'd get a hard cider and I'd get him a bud light or Hummingbird if they had it.

The restaurant is the busy bee... so close enough. Can't believe I blanked on his stella. I always get him Stella's for special occasions. Duh Kasi.

What is the best meal she has ever cooked you? 

He loves my Mexican Chicken Casserole (aka King Ranch Chicken Casserole).

One time I caught rice- in water- on fire. 

"burnt rice... flame broiled rice"

ha ha ha

What would she say is your most annoying habit? 

He's a tornado of destruction. 

"snoring/ sleeping patterns"

Again he might be right. He snores and twitches and I have been a little lacking in the sleep department due to this. Maybe I don't know myself.

What is the last thing she does before she goes to bed? 

Pee? Take my rings and jewelry off? 

"Say goodnight"

Who's the one paying attention to me? Not me?

If you could throw out one item of her clothing what would it be? 

He hates my bright clothing- either my coral jacket or this fur shawl thing I have. 

"Theres some things I hate but I can't know until I see them on...stripper boots"

He refers to anything that is a boot that is above the ankle as a stripper boot. My Frye look alike- stripper. Ugg boots- stripper. I should have known.

What would you say is your favorite thing about her? 

Everything? He usually says his favorite thing is that I'm kind hearted. 

"I like your personality"

He said a few non-PG versions before this. I guess that's close?

What's her go-to drink at Starbucks? 

White Chocolate Mocha if I'm being bad, Skinny Caramel Macchiato if I'm not. 

"Grande Skinny Caramel Macchiato"

Maybe I drag him to starbucks with me too much if he can remember that name.

What's her blog's name?! 

According to Kasi! DUH.

hahaha poor baby. He only reads it when I hand him the computer already on the post. MIGHT not be his fault... this time.

Well I guess that's it. 

Maybe I don't know myself as much as I thought I did. 

Maybe I just blanked a few times on the beer thing

but I swear he only orders Bud Light when we're out so that was a trick question. 

And mostly this surprised me at how much he actually listens to me

We are down to 5 months

And because I have a late lab tomorrow night 

Tonight is also our Valentine's Day celebration.

Every time I go home I am spending most of my conversations

Talking about wedding plans and trying to make decisions

We have decided to try to utilize the barn

Which requires extra cleaning and yardsssssss of burlap and gossamer

and power washing

BUT

we've bought lanterns

And spray paint so I can do THIS

We are talking about repurposing some old chandeliers 

One of my flower girls has picked out her dress

and even creatively tied in my dress color with an ivory ribbon

ONE of my bridesmaids has bought a dress

And I think we've settled on shoes

As of now my spring break is going to become meetings and planning

Meetings with the florists

Meetings with hair people?

 I'm having bridal portraits taken on April 14th

A day after my step sister's wedding

Bachelorette party in May

At least one shower in June

And my mother is demanding I have a bridal luncheon

I want Carolina Bagel

(if you're ever in New Bern, NC- go there. Get the open faced chicken salad melt on a cheddar bagel. Seriously the most delicious thing in the entire world- also not EXACTLY on the menu, but they'll make it!)

But she wants it to be at the country club

And she's having a hard time fathoming the fact that it has to be Friday

Or else none of my out of town/ out of state bridesmaids can come. DUH!

A few months ago it seemed so far away

That it might never happen

And now it seems so close I might not get it all done in time

But I can't wait

I hope these 5 months can just fly by

Because even if every thing is not done

Even if my hair is in a ponytail

and my bridesmaids have no dresses

I'm marrying the man of my dreams

My very best friend

and that's all that matters!

So Robert survived his first full week of work

We had dinner two days that week

It was nice

But in true Robbie fashion

(remember I call him Robbie when he does something that doesn't make me happy)

He planned a trip to West Virginia

For his first weekend off work

Instead of snuggling in bed with me all weekend

Lame.

But instead of being a butt head

I made cupcakes, jalapeño poppers, PB&Js

and packed snacks for him and his friends

(fiancé of the year award?)

Well apparently I must have looked pitiful

Because the "no cats allowed in our apartment" rule

changed into "okay you can go home and bring back one".

Honestly I'm pretty sure he just didn't want me to sit at the apartment all weekend sulking 

so he was pulling out the big guns to make me drive home.

But how could I chose between my babies?

So one cat turned into "two for a week"

Since we were already planning to go home next saturday for the day.

And so Saturday morning

I packed up an extra shirt and drove 2 hours home

And then yesterday I packed up the kittens

and drove 2 hours back to Raleigh.

Mo was a pretty good traveler until about 45 minutes away

So he spent the rest of the trip in my arms.

I only got a few looks...

Then for the moment of truth

Would they like their home for the week?

Mo immediately went to the spare bedroom

Which is not shocking considering the bed is against a giant window

He's spent most of his time here so far.

But I found out my cats are extremely annoying at night

Mo made his chirpy meow noise all night

And Optimus Prime just cried and tried to get in my closet.

So I'm really tired

And Robert's probably regretting his decision.

I have a kitten hangover

But its okay

It's worth it to have them around!

Over the years, what did you learn you needed in a significant other?  

What did you learn about yourself?

Dear Former Single Self,

Because there was a time that you never wanted to get married you never really thought about what you needed. Among others, you dated some one who was obsessed with sports, some one who was obsessed with cheating on you, a friend that should have stayed that way, a guy that the only thing you really liked was that you thought he was pretty, and also the guy who turned out to be the one. Although you didn't know it at the time, every one of those guys taught you a lesson about what you needed in a significant other. 

The boy who was obsessed with sports taught you that you needed some one who would put you first. The boy who cheated on you taught you to stand up for yourself and taught you that you needed some one who respects you. (Your favorite memory of that relationship is him crying on his knees in your driveway- aka the last time you ever saw him). The relationship wasn't all bad. You laughed and you were able to be goofy. You found out that was something else you required. You needed to laugh and have fun, without all the other women stuff. The guy that should have stayed your friend taught you that just because you have something in common with some one, doesn't make them a good match. You learned you needed passion and romance. Sometimes you even need to be a little different so you can grow as a person- in a good way. The boy you dated that was pretty taught you that looks aren't everything. Being physically attracted to some one is necessary in a significant other but there has to be compatibility.

So when you finally realize you like that boy that you watch basketball with you can think back to all the lessons you learned and realize he has everything you want in a significant other. Of course you're attracted to him, with his beautiful eyes and blonde hair and you discover you're into shoulders. Weird, right? But you also discover you laugh, a lot. You can be goofy. You talk to each other in Russian accents. The romance was there from the beginning even if you didn't realize it at first. I mean really, he gave you a back massage. Yeah you're right, just friends. Silly girl. Those heart shaped cookies and all the dinners he cooked for you were super sweet. You are uptight and borderline OCD but being with some one so carefree made you more carefree. Your differences made you better people. He respects you and doesn't hold any of your mistakes against you. Perfect, right?

But what really mattered the most is what you learned about yourself. You learned that you deserve to be happy. You learned that what people do to you isn't always a reflection of you. You learned that it's okay to be yourself- you should be yourself- so that when the person you like likes you back you know without a doubt that they like you, for you. The most important thing you probably learned to accept was that mistakes aren't always bad. They teach you lessons. They make you a better person. And they are what helps you learn about yourself so that you can be ready when the one comes along.

I know you aren't thinking of boys right now

And your idea of marriage and dating greatly mimicked the classics:

But my greatest advice to you is be nice to everyone

That boy, even though he will be a "butt head" to your friends,

is just a little bit insecure 

So calling him "Chunky Monkey" is unacceptable

because he turns out to be your one...

and he still won't try the Ben and Jerry's flavor 

with the same namesake as your old nickname for him...

Which shouldn't be funny in the future.

Via A Blonde Ambition

I confess, after visiting my cousin this week and hearing her speak about her friend "S" it came to my attention that "S" and I have a similar problem. I have no choice but to accept the fact that I am THAT person... THAT person who has been eating like butt hole mostly in secret and then wondering out loud why I'm not losing weight. Duh Kasi, quit buying boxes of valentines day candy on sale and quit eating your future mother-in-law's apple turnovers like you should be eating apples. 

I confess, that I am super nervous for Robert. Tomorrow he starts his first big boy job. I'm not nervous that he won't do well... I just want the other kids to like him! And I want him to enjoy his time so that it makes him staying in Raleigh for me to do my Master's degree worth it.

I confess, the people at Chick-fil-a are starting to recognize us. And not in a "you look familiar, were you in here the other day?" way but in a "guy at the drive through window knows my very specific request for 3 honey packets with my chicken minis" way. And if you don't know it- honey is amazing on those glorious pieces of heaven. 

I confess, for the first time in my life I have been doodling my first name and a boys last name together... Robert's last name of course. Duh. I'm having to rethink my entire signature with a new last name. Scribbles are only acceptable when your last name is as long as Wetherington and no one expects you to write it out, especially in cursive. 

and last but not least...

I confess that I am just now getting into Grey's Anatomy. Behind the times? Maybe. But now I can watch it all the way through with minimal commercials and I love it. In all of it's melancholy angst-y glory. And Robert does too. It may or may not have made me fall in love with Katherine Heigl all over again. (girl crush).
