Labor Day Weekend 2016: Mountains of GA/NC
Saturday, September 17, 2016
My Aunt and Uncle own a mountain house in Young Harris, GA.
This small town also is very close to the border of NC
So whenever we visit, we usually also end up in our home state as well.
The road to their house is absolutely stunning
It's too bad that we couldn't be there in the fall...
The rolling hills and horse barns are so pretty.
This is the view from the end of their street!
Day 1: Back to NC
On our first day we decided to stop by Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Resort and Casino
Turns out you can smoke inside these establishments, which I was not a fan of.
We probably spent only 30 minutes here before heading out $20 poorer.
We stopped for lunch at Rib Country
And for those of you not familiar, this is a small chain with ~7 locations in this area.
Their ribs are to die for, and the rest of the food is amazing too!
It's a must see for us when we visit!
At night we went to see the town's sheriff and his wife play music at a local bar.
It was probably the highlight of the entire trip for me!
They had the best margaritas, the music was great, and they even had corn hole boards set up outside of a fire pit!
If you're ever in the area check out Tusquittee Tavern.
Day 2: Helen, GA
After a scenic tour through the mountains to get here, we finally arrived in Helen, GA.
"Formerly a logging town that was in decline, the city resurrected itself by becoming a replica of a Bavarian alpine town"
Our first stop took us to Hofbrauhaus:
I'm not going to lie, our service was pretty bad in the beginning.
After getting our own drinks from the bar after 20 minutes I finally had to get the hostess to figure out why a server hadn't come to our table.
A nice waiter ended up taking over and from there things were smooth.
The food was pretty good too!
Next we just walked around Helen for a while
Helen is also known for its tubing.
We enjoyed a nice sunset before getting some Chinese food and calling it a night!
And of course, I had to take one more shot before we packed up the van to leave:
Until next time, GA!
